Wondering when to surf in Galicia? Our Ferrol coastline offers epic waves year-round, but each season has its own magic. At Nordes Surfhouse, we know these swells inside out. Here’s how to choose the perfect time for your surf trip.

Best time to surf in Galicia:

  • Beginners: June–August (small, gentle swells, warmest water)

  • Intermediates: April–June & September–November (consistent waves, mild weather)

  • Advanced: October–March (bigger swells, heavier waves)

Water temperatures range from ~12°C in winter to ~20°C in late summer.

Spring (March–May)

  • Conditions: Mix of small and medium swells, occasional bigger days early in the season.

  • Best for: Intermediates seeking consistency, advanced surfers wanting variety without summer crowds.

  • Why we love it: Longer daylight hours, wildflowers on the cliffs, and peaceful beaches.

  • Insider tip: Visit before and/or after Easter holidays to avoid crowds.

Summer (June–August)

  • Conditions: Smaller, forgiving waves with the warmest water of the year (~17-20°C).

  • Best for: Beginners, families, and relaxed holiday surfers.

  • Gear: 4/3mm or 3/2mm wetsuit is ideal, shorty possible in Juy/August.

  • Crowds: Busier beaches, but Ferrol has plenty of uncrowded spots.

Autumn (September–November)

  • Conditions: Peak season for consistent, clean swells. Offshore winds create perfect sessions.

  • Best for: All levels — beginners in sheltered spots, intermediates and pros at open beaches.

  • Water temp: ~18°C in September, cooling to ~16°C by November.

  • Pro tip: September is “golden month”  warm water, great waves, no crowds.

Winter (December–February)

  • Conditions: Powerful Atlantic swells, bigger waves, fewer surfers.

  • Best for: Advanced surfers comfortable in heavy conditions.

  • Gear: 4/3mm wetsuit with boots, gloves, and hood recommended.

  • Why we love it: Wild, raw energy and the chance to score empty world-class waves.
